Decorating For "A Picnic In The Meadow"

Our church is hosting an adult dinner tonight with the theme Picnic in the Meadow.  I'm on the decorating committee, so I've been there the last few days putting everything in order. It's been really fun.  Here's a sneak peak ...

This first scene is going to serve as a photo booth.  It was my special project for the week and I think it turned out pretty nice.

We did a few trial shots last night. Not sure my husband will make it to the dinner, depending on his work, so we figured we'd get a few pictures ahead of time just in case.  We're definitely not photogenic.

In the entry way, we hung a kite, put out the guest book, and a couple baskets.

This little scene is opposite the wall with the dragon kite.

I forgot to take a picture of the whole room, but here is a close-up of the tables.  Some of the runners in the middle are blue dots, some red dots, some blue stripes, and some red stripes.  The plates are red and white plaid, with red napkins under the silverware, which is wrapped in a blue napkin and fastened with a paper with ants printed on it.  There are two watermelon slices on each table, and a centerpiece of rain boots with bees on them, or small baskets.  If you look close, you'll see little flowers to the upper left of each plate.  Those will be filled with jelly beans or butter mints (alternating) right before the meal.  We were worried that the small cupcake papers we used for the cups would sag if we filled them too early.  We will be drinking from pint mason jars with lids and twirly red and white straws.

One of the ladies in our church decorated all the windows.  She used markers made for writing on windows, then added colored and cut out animals and flowers.  It's really cute. I hope it shows up well when it's dark outside.

We also created a couple of Spring themed bulletin boards.  I worked on this one all day yesterday along with a lady in our church who is a genius at this sort of thing, and owns a cricut cutting machine which made things much simpler.

It says Bee Like Jesus Every Day, and all the bees have traits on them - Meek, Peaceful, etc.

The other bulletin board is a little simpler.  Unfortunately the lettering doesn't show up as well, but it says A Picnic in the Meadow and has a couple of kites, and watermelon slices about to be invaded by ants.  The menu is fried chicken, potato salad, fruit salad and pie.  I made two banana cream pies last night too.  I'm hoping I feel well enough to go tonight.  I've had a stomach ache this morning.  It would be a shame to miss the party.
