So I bet you thought with my Dad here, I probably didn't get time for any sewing, right? Well, you would be wrong. I actually had a very productive week - especially with the hand sewing.
I had started the January block for the Birdie Stitches BOM before he got here, and I managed to finish it early in the week. I used all blues and grey and one light tan for the legs, noses and arms. It is much prettier in person.
Then I did the August block, finishing it all in one day. I picked it because there wasn't too much involved in it and I wanted to be able to focus on visiting. I started and finished it all in the same day I finished the January block. We spent a lot of time sitting and visiting, so I worked on these while we visited. We also spent a lot of time playing pinochle, and I seem to have lost my touch ... if I ever had the touch - ha. Anyway, we had a great time, regardless of the score... though Grandpa ought to be able to say he had a great time, and the score was great too - I think he won nearly every hand we played!
Today I've just finished the February block. I started this one right after the August block, so I'm done in less than a week - about 4 days really, and there was quite a bit to do on this one. Now I'll have to pick my next block, and pick out all my colors so I'll be ready to keep going. But before that, I've got a lap quilt to put together. I'm pattern testing for a blog friend and can't share the specific project until she lists it for sale. I like the colors I've chosen and think I can probably get the top done this week. That's my goal anyway.
The only machine sewing I did was to put together a car seat cover like the one I made before. I was asked to make one by a friend who saw mine and wanted to give one to her sister who is due to have a baby next month. I was given free reign on what fabric to choose (that was a mixed blessing. I love to pick fabric, but I had never met her, and knew absolutely nothing about her sense of style. Hope she likes it, but then I think this was a pretty safe choice.)
This is the third car seat cover we've made. My daughter made one for my sister. Hers is made out of pink and blue Dilly Dally fabric - pink on the outside, blue on the inside - big loopy flowers. Very cute fabric. It would be cute to do a whole nursery in it. I don't know how we managed to miss getting a picture before we gave it away. Maybe I can talk my sister into sending us a picture ;)
