My First Tiling Project :)

Back in October, my mom bought a brand new condo. I went to visit for a couple weeks, and we personalized the space by painting nearly the entire place and tiling the kitchen backsplash. Neither of us had ever done any tiling before, but we were eager to learn. We took a class at the local tile store, rented a tile saw and got to work.

She chose a 4" tile with a natural stone finish, and 1" glass tiles in varied shades of blue and green. The glass tiles came in a big sheet, but we used them individually. Surprisingly, one of the biggest challenges was in getting a random looking pattern with the colored glass. We didn't want two of the same glass tiles next to each other, but we didn't want it be a precise repeating pattern either. The cutting was a lot easier than I expected, except for the fact that it snowed and was freezing cold. When I would cut the tiles, my hands would get wet and my fingers would go numb :)

This is a close up so you can see the colors in the tile.

Her counter has a 30 degree angle in it which I thought would be an issue with the tile. It took a little thinking, but it wasn't as hard as I expected. Looking at the pictures I can see places where we should have done things a little differently, or little mistakes that we made, but overall, I think we did a great job for never having done it before and being completely on our own once we started. I enjoyed the process even if it was a little challenging. I will definitely do tiling in the future. It's not as hard as I thought it would be.
