Exploring the Moon, Caterpillars, and News From a Far Land

"As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country." - Proverbs 25:25

The other day, the three year old got a letter of his very own. He was very excited.  It was from his big sister, who is away at college.  :)  He is her favorite (and she is is favorite too).

He's claimed her work hat as his own since she left ;)

When we had the kids out in the stroller one day (daycare kids included), we came across a fuzzy black and orange caterpillar with spiky white hairs on each end.

Everyone had to get to where they could see it.

It was quite exciting, as you can see.

Thursday last week, the library had a special class for homeschoolers about the moon.  It was Observe the Moon night - which was supposed to be a worldwide event.  Anyway, one of the librarians had a special kit full of teaching materials and books and lead a great program that helped the kids learn to observe and study about the moon.  They also made the phases of the moon out of Oreo cookies, which I think was a favorite ;)

After that, they got to crawl inside an inflated star lab.  Inside there was a projector with a special disk that showed the stars on the dome.  It was pretty interesting.

(Don't you love the bare feet on this "astronaut?"  They had just come out of the dome, which they were required to take their shoes off for. :)

We've had a good summer, but it's definitely come to an end now.  It's downright cold now.  This picture was taken the same day we saw the caterpillar - which was probably a month ago.  I had the pictures on my phone and forgot about them until I went to take the moon pictures off the phone.  Anyway, Happy Fall to All :)  It's my favorite time of year!

This summer I cut the bottom off a couple of milk jugs for the kids to use to toss balls and catch them in the jug.  Somehow, the activity didn't translate ;) This is what most of the kids wanted to do with them.

And here is an example of what happens when you put a sleeper on the baby that is too big.  You can see his arm is out, but do you see the legs are empty as well? :)  He's growing like crazy lately, and we're starting to fit into 12 month clothes ... but not in this case :)  It's amazing to me how different the same size clothes can be.  I have on super-cute little overall outfit that is a 12 month size and is too small.  Then there's this sleeper that's too big.  Crazy.
