Dinner Out While the Paint Dried

 Last night after the house was painted, we wanted to keep the boys out of the house long enough for the paint to dry.  The nine year old had a 4-H meeting until 7, so we spent a little time at my in-laws house, then took the boys to dinner after picking up the nine year old from his meeting.  We decided on Chinese, which the nine year old thought was great since he was learning about Ancient China last week.

With the baby's allergies, we don't take any chances eating out.  I always pack all his food with us so I know for sure what he's eating.

 It was a nice, relaxing dinner.

... apart from the mess the four year old made.  He was funny though.  We walked in and he saw the candy machine.  You know the kind.  You put a quarter in and it spits out a handful of candy.  He saw that, and said, "Oh look, they have puskiddlers." (That's skittles to those of you who don't speak preschooler.)  And keep in mind, this is the kid that doesn't eat candy or any other sweets.  Bugga offered him a freshly baked cookie right before we headed out to dinner and he took a bite, then rudely threw it on the floor.

This is what I had for dinner - steamed vegetables with shrimp.  The only thing on the plate I'm not allowed to eat on the diet is the carrot.  I think this would have been an okay meal for the one year old also, but it's hard to know without walking into their kitchen whether there might be cross contamination with other foods cooked before.  Better not to take a chance.  And so far he is not allergic to shellfish, but I don't want to take the chance on finding out that has changed.  We have enough excitement in our lives as it is.
