Today we loaded up in the 4H Suburban and drove more than two hours so these guys (and a couple other teams) could participate in our regional 4H food competition.
They had one hour to cook, serve, and clean up their stations, and they had a specific list of ingredients they had to choose from. They could add anything they wanted, but at least two ingredients had to be on the competition master list.
They divided up the work and each one had a 3x5 card telling them what to do next.
The judges came around and asked questions while they were cooking, and again after they were done.
Considering none of these guys had ever done a cookoff before, they did a great job.
(I just love this picture. They're all watching peanut butter and chocolate chips melt in the microwave - ha.)
When they served the judges, they were also interviewed by them.
When the awards were announced, they came away with second place :) Another of our local teams took first place in this division, and our other local team, competing at the next level up won their division, so two firsts and a second was pretty good for our group of kids :)
It was a beautiful drive and great scenery too, but I still like it here at home better.
After 2+ hours in the car, followed by a very stressful competition, it was time to run off some steam.
Then our extension office treated us to pizza, and we made the long drive home (made longer by a broken part in our Suburban, which meant we had to drive slowly. lol. Fun day anyway, and we made it back just fine.
