What's a Day Without a Little Drama?

My daughter woke me up bright and early this morning to tell me there was water pouring out of the light fixture downstairs.  I had no idea what she could be talking about until I went to look.  You know how it is when you're sleeping and someone says something that's so totally out of the blue?  It didn't take long to figure out that we had a massive problem.  The kitchen was an absolute pond.

See the white piece on the top?  That's where the filter is for our water, and water was just pouring out of the hose at the back of that.

All of my drawers were full of water.

You can actually see the lemon and tomatoes floating.  Thankfully it was mostly fresh produce, and the cheese in the bottom drawer was either in ziplock bags or unopened.  I did have two different cheeses that got some water on them, but I dried them off and I think I'll still be able to use them.

The bigger problem was in the basement.  See the water coming out of the light fixture?

And bulging on the wall?

Later, that bulge looked like this.

Another spot on the wall also had a water bulge.

All the joints of the drywall on the ceiling are damaged.  I think this room will have to be completely drywalled over again.

The good news is that we are renting this place.  The better news is that this was not our fault.  They sent someone out to pull the carpet up in a couple places and put dryers under it.  The floor was completely soaked, including our nice area rug, which is now airing out outside.  This is a raised floor, so it's hard to tell how much water is really under there, but it was enough that it was draining out into the bathroom and storage area.

You can see how wet it is.  Actually the whole thing is dripping wet, but these are the especially bad areas.  After having the blowers on it for a few hours, it already looks remarkably better.  What's a little drama, right?  :)
