Finished Wood Splitting, and Autumn Colors

This is where my ten year old and I left off on Saturday in our splitting and stacking of my in-laws' woodpile.

Monday I went back over and worked all day to finish the project.  The ten year old was at Science Camp Monday and Tuesday, so I worked on this alone.

I finished another 2 1/2 rows, and split 4 or 5 wheel barrows full of kindling.

You can see the kindling pile a little better in this photo - along the wall behind the log splitter.

We've been having some school woes.  This is the unhappy kid hiding in a box after school.  He was all doubled over with his face to his knees until he heard the camera turn on.  He got a timeout yesterday because he punched an ipad.  They were trying to use it to bribe him to go to library time.  Every day he's been very upset - near tears - telling me he doesn't want to go to school.  He only goes 2 hours a day, 4 days a week, and mostly just for speech and occupational therapy, but it's been a real challenge for him.  Not sure how that's all going to end, but we're going to hang with it at least through the end of the month, then decide what to do.  I'm sure part of it is just the adjustment time.  The other part of it is that he spends a lot of his time in the "life skills" (special ed) room, but all the other kids are considerably older than him and are dealing with bigger disabilities than he has, so it is very intimidating to him.  I'm starting to think he would do better incorporated into one of the regular kindergarten classrooms.  One of the teachers is a former special ed instructor.

The trees in town are all such beautiful colors this week.  I took a minute to drive around town and snap a few pictures.

I do miss the deep reds and oranges of the trees in the south from when we lived in NC.  But this is home and I love it here.  Autumn has always been my favorite time of year.  I hope it lasts a good long time, and that the super cold weather takes its time getting here.

  1. I am so sorry your sweetheart is having this adjustment time. Sometimes I want to hide in a box, too. The Lord will continue to guide you--we have been in similar spots tryingt o figure out what is really best. Your fall colors are beautiful. We try to go to Ridgecrest NC every fall during the college's fall break.
