Feeding Birds

Now that we're getting some significant amounts of snow, the birds are getting less picky about what kind of food they'll eat.

They don't have any qualms about coming to the feeder on the window anymore either.

We even have a magpie hanging around, though I haven't seen it hitting any of the feeders.

Some people think magpies are a nuisance, but I think they're really pretty.  They're huge too - 3-4 times bigger than the house finches in the other pictures.

It was fun watching them fight for a spot at the feeder the other day.  We even had a chickadee the other day.

The male house finches are very pretty.  They have red on their head and chest.

We put up a thistle feeder too.  Can you see the bird on the branch?

And now he's on the side of the feeder.  Of course they are always on the opposite side of the feeder where they're hard to see.  When we first put this up, the birds only wanted thistle seeds.

We have sunflower seeds in this feeder that was already here (missing it's roof), and in a tray style feeder that is now covered with snow.  That one isn't going to work very well for winter.  I guess they could scratch around in it and get to the seeds if they were hungry enough.  Anyway, we're having a lot of fun watching the birds.
