In Everything Give Thanks

Today I am giving thanks to God that my baby has pneumonia. Sounds strange, huh? Not really.

We knew the baby was having problems not breathing well. Last night we did a sleep study, having him wear a pulse oxygen monitor all night. His oxygen levels dropped into the seventies a couple times, so I got a call from the doctor this morning telling me to bring him up for more tests.

They did a chest x-ray on him and determined that he has pneumonia in the lower half of his right lung.

So why am I thankful? It's simple. Before this, we were checking his heart - thinking he might have a murmur. When the test showed his heart was fine, we were unsure what he had, but we knew he wasn't breathing right. So compared to a heart defect, or an unknown problem, this diagnosis is a blessing. At least now we can treat it. So for now, he is on oxygen whenever he sleeps, and is taking an antibiotic. He doesn't act sick, and doesn't seem bothered by it. They guess he may have aspirated something even as far back as at birth, which then caused the infection. Because he has a bit of a dry cough to his cry, we didn't suspect he might have an actual cough - especially since he's had that all along. He doesn't have to be in the hospital because he is still eating well, and he only has a low-grade fever.

I had to take a picture of the directory in our doctor's office. My question is, where is Dr. Candlestick Maker? :P (By the way, Dr. Butcher is a surgeon! How funny is that? I don't know what Dr. Baker's specialty is. Maybe weight loss surgery? teehee. I need to get some sleep!)
